My Journey
The Black House at Christchurch Harbour Entrance, Dorset — watercolour by Michael Burnet Smith

The Black House at Christchurch Harbour Entrance, Dorset, UK.

My Journey — Dorset

The Black House on the Hengistbury Head side of Christchurch Harbour Entrance was traditionally coated in tar to counteract water penetration from the south-westerly storms of the Channel. The tidal race between the sandbanks and Mudeford Quay carves out the channel, which is deepest on the Mudeford side — the traditional place where the fishermen land their catch.
